The guidelines for the development and operation of enrolment schemes are issued under Schedule 20, Clause 3 (3) of the Education and Training Act 2020 for the purpose of describing the basis on which the Secretary’s powers in relation to enrolment schemes will be exercised.
All students who live within the home zone described below shall be eligible to enrol at Parklands School.
The Home Zone includes addresses on both sides of the boundary roads mentioned in the description unless otherwise stated.
Starting from the western end of Whakarewa Street, the home zone follows:
East along Whakarewa Street until Queen Victoria Street
Including Chamberlain Street between Whakarewa Street and College Street
South along Queen Victoria Street until Green Lane
Including Queen Victoria Street between Green Lane and Marchwood Park Road, and including Marchwood Park Road
East and then north along Grey Street until Whakarewa Street
East along Whakarewa Street until High Street
Including Coppins Place
South along High Street until Lowe Street
East along the northern side of Lowe Street until Woodlands Avenue
North along Woodlands Avenue until High Street
Including Edgewood Crescent
North along High Street until Tudor Street
East along Tudor Street until Thorp Street
Including all side streets off the southern side of Tudor Street
North along Thorp Street until Harbour Road
Including Thorp Street between Tudor Street and Totara Park Avenue
South-east along Harbour Road until Motueka Quay
South along Motueka Quay until Glenaven Drive
From the intersection of Motueka Quay and Glenaven Drive, jumps east to the coastline
North along the coastline until the Motueka River
West along the southern and then eastern bank of the Motueka River until on-line with Whakarewa Street
Parklands School operates a special programme, Taumata Kahuki.
Students who live within the school’s home zone and meet the criteria for enrolment in Taumata Kahuki will be enrolled ahead of out-of-zone students.
Criteria for Acceptance:
Whānau must demonstrate a commitment to Tikanga Māori, assessed by the leadership team of Taumata Kahuki and the Tumuaki of Parklands School.
Priority of Acceptance:
In-zone applicants with siblings attending Taumata Kahuki
In-zone applicants from Kōhanga Reo
In-zone applicants from another Māori bilingual unit in New Zealand
In-zone applicants with extended whānau connections
All other in-zone applicants
Out-of-zone applicants with siblings attending Taumata Kahuki
Out-of-zone applicants from Kōhanga Reo
Out-of-zone applicants from another Māori bilingual unit in New Zealand
Out-of-zone applicants with extended whānau connections
All other out-of-zone applicants
The size of the special programme will be determined annually based on operational capacity.
The School Board will determine the number of out-of-zone places available annually. This information will be published by public notice, including application procedures and deadlines.
Priority for Out-of-Zone Applications:
Students accepted into the Special Programme (Taumata Kahuki)
Siblings of current students
Siblings of former students
Children of former students
Children of staff or board members
All other applicants
If there are more applicants in any priority group than available places, selection will be by ballot as per Schedule 20, Clause 3 (1) of the Education and Training Act 2020.
Applicants may be required to provide proof of in-zone residency or supporting documents for out-of-zone applications.
