CLASSROOM OPTIONS

Te Kura o Pakarana offers two options for learning; English and Māori medium. Taumata Kahuki is our bi-lingual unit that offers education through Te reo me ona tikanga. Please note that due to Taumata Kahuki being high in numbers, we require a meeting with the Tumuaki to gauge suitability of student enrolment in these classes.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

We are registered with the Ministry of Education to enrol international students and encourage enquiries from overseas families who may wish to spend all or part of a year living in the Nelson/Tasman region of New Zealand. International students must be living with their parents for the duration of their stay in New Zealand and some proficiency in English is preferable.

NEW ENROLMENTS

New pupils are enrolled at the School Office, usually with the Tumuaki, Andrea Smith. We welcome enquiries and opportunities to show families around our school and we also encourage early enrolment of new entrant children, so that we can arrange orientation visits by the children and their parents during the two or three weeks leading up to the actual starting date.

If you are enrolling a 5 year old new entrant , a copy of the child’s birth certificate (or Passport or other legal document) is required for confirmation of age. We also need to sight your child’s Immunisation Certificate available from your family doctor.

Starting school is a big step for any child.   At Parklands, we recognise the importance of a happy start to school and an easy transition from pre-school to school.   When your child starts kura at Parklands School, they will begin in our Foundation Class - Ngā Kākano. This is a transition class where students will learn all about school, in a space that is designed especially for them. A small class size gives us the opportunity to get to know your child and give them the skills they need before moving into a Year One class (either English or Māori Medium). Please come into the school office and ask if you would like to find out more!

Come and meet our New Entrant kaiako: Leah, Whaea Jessie and Whaea Tania today!
