WHAT IS PB4L?

Our school promotes Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L). 

At Parklands School we expect KAHA:  Kotahitanga (Collaborative), Ako (Agentic Learner), Haepapa (Responsible), Aroha (Empathy)

The word CARE is also represented in our values!

Positive, clear, consistent and reasonable expectations that are fairly applied help students respond and behave appropriately. 

We support our students to follow these four simple rules by teaching our expectations, just like reading and maths. Every fortnight we have a school wide focus and classrooms have their own focus every other week.

These are our school values and they help EVERYONE LEARN WELL AND BE HAPPIER 

1. Kotahitanga (Collaborative) We talk positively, we help others, we work together, we include others. 

2. Ako (Agentic Learner): We love learning, we work hard and always try our best We have a growth mindset, we never give up. 

3. Haepapa (Responsible): We always do the right thing, we are good examples to others, we follow instructions, we finish what we start. 

4. Aroha (Empathy): We listen to others’ ideas and opinions, we treat others the way we want to be treated, we celebrate everyone and their uniqueness.

There are many ways that we acknowledge and reward students for following the school wide expectations of CARE! Some of these are:

• House Points

• Tumuaki's Pizza Party (termly)

• Tumuaki's Postcard Home 

• Classroom Rewards

• The Parklands Awards (For Year 7s and 8s)

Positive Behaviour for Learning includes the use of evidence based practices:

• A consistent school-wide system of support that helps define, teach and support appropriate student behaviour, creating a positive school environment.

• School-wide discipline practices including establishing clear consequences.

• Instruction in social skills, helping students to regulate their own behaviour.

• A focus on prevention of problem behaviour and instruction in appropriate behaviour.

• Helping teachers to intervene effectively to manage behaviour in the classroom and other school environments.

• Active supervision in all areas of the school.
