BUILDING THE NEW POOL on PhotoPeach
Enjoy the history of the new pool development.

SWIMMING POOL - OPEN AT LAST!

It was a lovely warm and sunny day and plans for the pool opening proceeded smoothly during the afternoon. Then, as 5 pm approached, the sky darkened, the wind came up and down came the rain! The marquee set up for food stalls in the court area took off like a kite and ended up in pieces scattered around the court! While those organising the food stalls made a hasty retreat to the caretaker's garage and other sheltered spots, the rest of us huddled under the shade canopy inside the pool area.

Following a short welcome from the Principal, Kate Markham, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees acknowledged the fundraising efforts of past and present students, parents, staff members and trustees and thanked The Community Trust (which made a substantial grant making the project possible) and Mayfair Pools for building such a spectacular pool. Rev Gladys Taingahue then blessed the new complex and our youngest and oldest students, Matthew Bint and Nikau Parata, cut the ribbon strung between the handrails to mark the opening of the pool. With the pool finally open, a number of children and a few hardy staff members and parents took to the water for a swim in the rain. (Mind you, it could be said that those who didn’t go for a swim were almost as wet!)

Our thanks to everyone who braved the wet weather to attend the opening ceremony. It was also great to see former staff member Twinkle Black among the crowd. Twinkle was a pupil at school when the original pool was built in 1944!
