Our teacher was Whaea Jessie Andersen. She left us to become the mother of Manaia and Mrs Partridge is now teaching us. We have 25 Year 3 and 4 students, aged 7 and 8, and for our main aim in class we want a sharing, safe, clean, caring, beautiful, BEST, fun, trustworthy class where we all look after each other and enjoy learning Other aims are: to learn te Reo Māori, to swim well and to improve in all of our learning. Planned highlights for this year include the Tŭrangawaewae Multicultural Festival, the rocky shore trip and the ski trip. Some of the outside activities we participate in are: having fun with our families, Cubs, swimming, bike riding, playing with our friends and our pets, going to Te Reo Māori lessons, so you can see we are busy people!! We show respect for ourselves, each other, our property and the property of others, our environment and the class and School rules.
These students are not in the main photo |
We really enjoy: playing, singing, dancing, fitness, spending time with Whaea Jessie, games, Te Reo Māori, swimming LEARNING, EVERYTHING!!! Our class is really special because of the wonderful tamariki in it. We are special because we all take care of each other.
Report compiled by our class. What a SUPER class (BWeBman)

A major topic in the first term was our visit to the Otuwhero Pā site at Marahau. As well as having a very interesting talk from Mr Rogers, we built a model Pā from sand. We then had a game with Vaughan at the Marahau Outdoor Education Centre, after which we went back to Sandy Bay. We climbed up a bush track and saw the remains of these ancient earthworks. We were lucky to have Whaia Sue Pryde the Resource Teacher of Māori, who told us all about it.
We all wrote and illustrated stories, which are in this slideshow. You can puase the show to read the storie.

In the story, Maui and his brothers capture the sun and cripple it so that it no longer races across the sky, giving them much longer days. |
We drew the sun with pencil and used two shades of dye to colour the picture. We then drew over the pencil with crayons. Lastly we stuck on the black paper silhouettes of the people and used wool for the ropes. Above is Jaydin's picture
